چکیده

This paper uses an analytical and econometric approach to analyze the farmland conversion process, including the effects of population growth, real estate markets, the agricultural-urban edge, and farm returns. We use a unique county-level dataset on farmland conversion for California that tracks conversions between agricultural, urban and other land uses. Paper prepared for the annual meeting of the American Agricultural Economics Association, Chicago, August 5-8, 2001. We thank Alvin D. Sokolow for providing data on development restrictions by county. Copyright 2001 by Nicolai V. Kuminoff and Daniel A. Sumner. All rights reserved. The Impacts on Illegal Farmland Conversion of Adopting Remote Sensing Technology for Land Inspection in China

While China’s central government has adopted remote sensing technology in land inspection since 2000, little empirical research has been done on its effect. This study aims to measure the effect of satellite imagery-based land inspection (SIBI) on illegal farmland conversion. The data used in this study were collected for the period from 1997 to 2010 at the province-level. The econometrics appr...

Study on Cultivated Land Concentrated Areas Delineation Based on GIS and Mathematical Morphology: A Case of Miyun County and Pinggu District in Beijing

The basic farmland within the protection areas was required to be of high-quality and connective in the general plans for land use. A new method was developed to delineate the boundaries of high-quality, concentrated and connective cultivated land. Based on mathematical morphology principles and GIS methods, the high quality of cultivated land blocks could be identified through dilation and ero...

Modelling farmland conversion integrating multi-agent systems and resource economics theory

Farmland conversion, i.e. conversion of farmland into non-agricultural construction land, is an unavoidable trend in global economic development(Fazal 2001; Tan et al. 2005; Bugri 2008). In China, which is relatively short of farmland resources and yet in the phase of accelerating urbanization, conversion of farmland is closely related to national food security, ecological security as well as s...

Development and Application of a Farmland Test Data Processing System Designed for Wireless Sensor Network Applications

Data collected by measuring farmland environmental indicators are vital sources of agricultural information. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been employed to acquire stable and real time farmland environment data. WSNs, recognized as one of the latest development trends, recently attracted widespread attention and application due to their relative economy, stability, and sophistication. In...
